Gearing up for Spring in Tucson

As spring arrives to the Sonoran landscape, many find themselves at the mercy of the pollen and allergens that can fill the air. Our favorite physician-herbalist, Dr. Tieraona Low Dog, recommends several natural ways to reduce your allergy discomfort this spring.

•    Stay well-hydrated

•    Follow an anti-inflammatory lifestyle diet- limit processed foods, sugars/carbs

•    Load up on foods rich in flavonoids- onions, garlic, apples, berries, tea chocolate, and wine, in moderation, can be good sources

•    Spice it up- ginger and turmeric have potent anti-inflammatory properties; use them liberally

•    Saline rinses have been found to be very effective against nasal allergies- do this daily to help improve your symptoms without requiring medication or antibiotics

•    Herbs and supplements: Nettles, Quercetin, and Probiotics have also shown some effectiveness in calming seasonal allergies.
